I wrote my own Autocomplete subsystem,
when used to work for NCBI. Currently used in the pubmed search engine.
You can see demo on the my own site:

Distinctive features:
– Can work with huge dictionaries, 10+ million records is OK.
– Very efficient. My demo works on the old machine Celeron300,
and consumes less than 1% CPU.
– Allows dynamic translation, and search not only from begin of phrase. For example, you you search “york”, my autocomplete can
suggest you “New-York”, while Google – can not, it searches only from begin of the string.
